Smoking Cessation Plan

A smoking cessation plan is a structured, personalised strategy for quitting. It typically sets a quit date, selects medicines suited to the person such as NRT or prescription tablets, identifies smoking triggers, and plans responses to cravings and high risk situations.

Evidence consistently shows planned quit attempts with support succeed more often than unplanned ones. In Australia, a plan can be built with a GP in a single consultation, with follow up appointments timed around the quit date to adjust treatment.
