Rejection sensitive dysphoria (RSD) describes sudden, intense emotional pain triggered by perceived criticism, rejection or failure. The reaction is faster and stronger than typical disappointment and can drive people to avoid situations where judgement is possible.
RSD is not a formal diagnosis in the DSM-5, but it is widely reported by people with ADHD and is discussed in clinical practice as part of emotional dysregulation. Recognising the pattern helps distinguish it from anxiety or depression, which need different treatment approaches.
