Obesity

Obesity is a chronic medical condition involving excess body fat to a degree that affects health. Australian guidelines define it as a BMI of 30 or above for most adults, though clinicians also assess waist measurement, body composition and metabolic markers.

Modern medicine treats obesity as a long term condition influenced by genetics, hormones, medications and environment, not a failure of willpower. Structured care combines nutrition, movement, sleep, psychological support and, where clinically appropriate, prescription medicines through a medical weight loss program.
