Neurodivergent is a term describing people whose brains process information, attention or social cues differently from the majority, including those with ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, dyslexia and related profiles. The contrasting term is neurotypical.
The language comes from the neurodiversity movement, which frames these differences as natural variation with strengths as well as challenges. In clinical practice the framing supports better conversations: assessment and treatment target the difficulties a person wants help with, not the identity itself.
