Methylphenidate

Methylphenidate is a prescription stimulant medicine used in the management of ADHD. It is available in short acting and long acting forms, and works by influencing dopamine and noradrenaline activity in areas of the brain involved in attention and self regulation.

In Australia, methylphenidate is a Schedule 8 controlled medicine, which means strict state based prescribing rules apply. It is prescribed only after a clinical assessment, and treatment is reviewed regularly by the prescribing doctor.
