A medical certificate is a formal document issued by a registered health practitioner confirming that a person was assessed and is, or was, unfit for work or study due to illness or injury. Employers and universities across Australia accept certificates from AHPRA registered doctors, including those issued after a telehealth consultation.
A certificate can only cover what the doctor can reasonably attest to, which is why a short consultation is always required first. Telehealth makes same day certificates practical, particularly for people who cannot reach a clinic while unwell.
