Hyperactive impulsive ADHD is the DSM-5 presentation dominated by restlessness, fidgeting, excessive talking, interrupting and acting without thinking. It is the most visible presentation in young children and is diagnosed more often in boys.
With age, outward hyperactivity tends to become inner restlessness, though impulsivity can persist in decisions, spending and speech. Assessment traces how symptoms have shifted over time, since adult presentations rarely look like the childhood stereotype.
