Holistic health is an approach that considers the whole person: physical symptoms, mental health, sleep, nutrition, movement, stress and life circumstances, and how each influences the others. A sleep problem may drive weight gain; chronic pain may drive low mood.
Practised properly, holistic care stays evidence based, using the full breadth of conventional medicine while addressing root causes and prevention rather than isolated symptoms. It is the philosophy behind integrative GP care, where longer consultations allow the connections between systems to be properly explored.
