Fungal skin infections occur when fungi grow on the skin, producing itchy, scaly, often ring shaped rashes. Common forms include tinea of the feet and groin, ringworm on the body, and fungal nail infections. Warm humid conditions encourage growth.
Mild cases respond to antifungal creams from the pharmacy used for the full recommended course. Widespread, recurrent or nail infections usually need prescription oral antifungals. Diagnosis matters because fungal rashes mimic eczema and psoriasis, and steroid creams alone can worsen a fungal cause; a photo based skin consultation can distinguish them.
