Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterised by widespread muscle pain, profound fatigue, unrefreshing sleep and cognitive difficulties often called fibro fog. It involves amplified pain processing in the nervous system rather than damage in the painful tissues.

Diagnosis is clinical, based on symptom patterns after excluding other causes. Management combines paced activity, sleep treatment, psychological strategies and selected medicines, since no single treatment works alone. A GP can coordinate this plan and refer where specialist input helps.
